Think about what you are going to wear

You will need to spend some time considering what you will wear. It is important that your look matches the image you’re trying to convey. What you wear on a daily basis is a great place to start. Solid colors are always a good choice, as are tops with strong collars and necklines. Even though you’ll only be shot from the shoulders up, it’s important you’re pulled together from head to toe since you may want a shot or two that are pulled back a bit. Select clothes that complement your skin and eye tones.

If your headshot will be taken in a uniform, trade specific outfit, or something unique to the purpose of the headshot, you already have all the direction you need regarding what to wear for your professional headshot. Otherwise, you will want to select an outfit that is professional, photographs well, and is classically timeless. You will want to avoid bright colors and bold patterns, graphic logo t-shirts (or anything else that make you look less than professional) and stay away from clothing with shiny fabric.
